It's hard to believe but, almost 20% (1.2 million) of all Zimbabwean children have lost a parent; most have been orphaned by AIDS.

A quarter of the population is HIV-positive, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic has slashed the average life expectancy from 61 to 33 years.

  • 80% do not receive any form of external support
  • Malaria is the leading killer of children under five
  • Many children do not have birth certificates (limiting access to healthcare and education)
  • 1,000’s suffer violence, exploitation, and trafficking 
85% of the population professes Christianity.
More than 5,000 children are raped every year.
Young girls are vulnerable to rape as some men in Zimbabwe believe that having sex with a virgin will cure them from HIV/AIDS. 
89 out of 1,000 children die before their 5th birthday.



 
33% of all children suffer from malnutrition.  
10 is the average age a girl drops out of school.
Zimbabwe is a republic with a presidential system of government.
90% Unemployment--the highest in the world.
$2 a day is the average pay for an adult.
