“Let’s Go Fly...”
On April 5, 2018, Homes of Love hosted its biennial celebration and fundraising banquet, entitled "Let's Go Fly." Held at the Mill & Mine in Downtown Knoxville, the night began with an outdoor reception featuring the band AM Station playing lively oldies tunes from the 50’s to 70’s. Guests sampled tea from Jackson Avenue Tea Company, including a special Homes of Love blend of green tea and mango. There was much talking and mingling among new and old Homes of Love friends.
After making their way inside to the sound of the classic song "Let's Go Fly a Kite", guests enjoyed an Asian-inspired dinner and beautiful decor featuring handmade kites. The kite theme was emphasized through the reading of a poem by Erma Bombeck, titled “Children are Like Kites”. Much like kites, the children of Homes of Love are gently guided and encouraged by their HOL parents and supporters to soar higher than they ever could alone. The story of one Homes of Love child was shared in a video specially created by Vessul Creative for the event. This video features Hoa My, a girl from Vietnam who is now being launched into adulthood and desires to serve other at-risk children like herself.
Guests also enjoyed the musical giftings of Amy Carty as she played a special rendition of "Let's Go Fly a Kite" on her harp.
To close the night, both Debbie Chesney and Gary Chesney shared from their hearts about the children and vision of Homes of Love as well as the financial need of the ministry. With 93 children currently living in 19 homes across 3 countries, and 24 students participating in either college or vocational training, the Homes of Love budget continues to grow.
Over 350 people, including the board of directors, staff, and a team of volunteers, were in attendance for the event. It was a special night full of heart-warming stories, joy, and celebration. We are grateful to all who came and supported our children. Overall, Homes of Love was able to raise over $65,000 because of the 2018 Let’s Go Fly banquet.
We especially want to thank the sponsors who made this evening possible!
